About Joanne

Joanne’s public speaking philosophy is a result of an epiphany she had prior to getting on stage to present to 150 independent investment advisor clients of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. more than 10 years ago. She spent her first 15 years at Schwab working intensely on her presentation skills, so she thought she had the whole public speaking thing down. That afternoon, she thought more deeply about her audience and the value of the time they had given up to be there with her. She realized the meaning of having the gift of their valuable time. In return for that gift, she set a goal that her presentation opportunities had to be more important to her audience than the next best use of their time. And, that no matter the group, something good had to happen as a result of their time together.

A high functioning team is an important and often-unsung hero. Through her many leader and follower roles Joanne has learned the value and joy of working with truly high functioning teams. She believes that teamwork is the key to remaining competitive, nimble, creative and relevant. Engaged and committed teams have infinite potential and are so much more fun to be a part of than the alternative. It takes outstanding teams to make the impossible, possible.

Joanne lives in Bend, Oregon with her handsome and reasonable husband Nelson and their two funny and useful children, Casey and Theo. They all share responsibility for their brilliant cockapoo, Buffalo, and their exceptionally friendly kitty, Ira.
